UNC Hospitals Department of Pharmacy has an immediate opening for a highly-motivated individual interested in joining Acute Care Services as a Pediatric Pharmacy Clinical Specialist. The successful Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will play an integral role in the management of critically-ill pediatric patients in the North Carolina Children's Hospital, a nationally recognized leader in cystic fibrosis and other pediatric disorders. The Pediatric Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will serve as a key member of the interdisciplinary health care team, providing clinical support to physicians and nurses, operational support to the Department of Pharmacy and educational mentorship to pharmacy students, Post-graduate Year 1 (PGY1), and Post-graduate year 2 (PGY2) Pharmacy residents at UNC Hospitals. The successful candidate will also function as a preceptor in the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program at UNC Hospitals. Additionally, the Pediatric Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will work with the Department of Pharmacy to address institutional and departmental pharmacy-related quality improvement initiatives. In addition to providing experiential education to pharmacy students and residents, the successful candidate will take an active role in providing didactic learning activities at UNC’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy (ESOP). Academic appointment at UNCs ESOP is also available commensurate with experience. Completion of a PGY2 specialty residency in Pediatrics or an equivalent level of experience in Pediatric pharmacy practice is preferred. The designation of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and/or prior experience as a resident and student preceptor is preferred. The hours of this position will be from 7:00am--3:30pm as department needs dictate.
Education, training, experience:
Requires Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and five years of experience; or, a Pharm.D. Degree in Pharmacy and three years experience. Board certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist may substitute for one year of experience. Each year of accredited residency may substitute for two years of experience. Master's Degree may substitute for two years of experience. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of North Carolina.
